Chair- Todd M. Sansom

Mr. Sansom is a lifelong resident and business owner in Greene County. He traces his conservative values to his father, an Air Force Captain who was on the National Security Council and the Reagan Transition Team. Todd has served his community as a School Board Chair, fighting against school closures and mask mandates during Covid. He owns a 200+ head Angus beef cattle farm as well as two retail and dining businesses in Greene. He is married with 3 young children, coaches youth sports, and faithfully attends Legacy Church in Stanardsville.

First Vice Chair- Buddy Barre

 A 10-year resident of Greene County, with plans to grow roots locally, Buddy is a devoted husband and a loving father of two children. He is active in the community - coaching multiple youth sports, donating to and sponsoring many youth programs, and volunteering for as many community events and organizations for which he can find time. Buddy owns and operates a developing construction contracting business, and his wife, Martine, is the owner/operator of a young and budding physical therapy clinic.

Always open to traveling the path less chosen, in an attempt to discern sound principle from unethical popularity, Buddy is willing to shoulder the burden of scrutiny, to stand against unscrupulous behavior.

2nd Vice Chair- Leo Kennon

Mr. Kennon has lived in Greene County for more than 45 years. He is a lifelong moral and fiscal conservative, but the events of 2020 led him to get active in politics. Leo was one of the millions of Americans who lost his job in the forced economic shutdown with a company he had pridefully worked with for over 40 years. He is active in his church, and his wife is a beloved 2nd grade teacher. They have four children and 8 beautiful grandchildren. Leo looks forward to bringing his Christian heart for servitude to the committee.

Treasurer- Hal Johnson

Hal grew up in Arlington, VA, and moved to Greene County in 2013 with his wife, three dogs, and two horses. He has three wonderful children, of whom one still resides at home. In his spare time, he enjoys jazz, tending his garden, lawn, and staying active at the gym. Professionally, Hal spent over 2 decades in the accounting/finance field. Currently, Hal is in his 22nd year as a mortgage lender. As a volunteer Hal served 5 years as the treasurer for Legacy Church. Currently, Hal serves on the board of directors of the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association as well as several committees with the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors.

Recording Secretary- Bert Nye

1st Lt. Nye earned a Bronze Star with the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam in 1968-69. He is a retired Engineering Manager/Director from Westinghouse Electric Co. Defense Center and Orbital Systems. He moved to Stanardsville in 2007 and married wife Barbara in 2008. Both were widowed and together have 4 children, 9 grandchildren. They are founding members of the Greene Youth Development Council active on the Board of Directors. They are leaders in various other youth outreach ministries including the “Unity Garden” at Grace Church. Bert is a past Sr. Warden at Grace Episcopal Church where they worship.

Bert served on the GCRC Executive Committee, and was Stanardsville Precinct Captain from 2014-2020.  From 2018-20, he was part of the 5th District Committee representing GCRC, serving on the Credentials Committee for the 5th District convention in 2020. In 2016 he was the 24th Senatorial Legislative District Committee (LDC) Recording Secretary. He has served occasionally as proxy on the SCC. He has been active in elections at all levels, and authored numerous position papers and LTE’s backing Republican candidates for decades.

Membership Chair- Kathy Darnell

Kathy grew up in Greene County and is a proud graduate of William Monroe High School, 1983. She has 30+ years experience as an administrative assistant and currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Head of School at The Blue Ridge School, and as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Kathy is also a founding member of the Greene County Parks and Recreation Foundation.

Kathy is blessed to live, work and volunteer in her hometown community and be within minutes of her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her two daughters, son-in-law and four grandsons are her pride and joy. Faith, family and freedom are what motivates Kathy, and those that know her will tell you; she is not afraid of hard work or speaking up.
